PRACTICE: Bonsignore Fast Out Of The Gate

THOMPSON, Conn. – Justin Bonsignore was fastest in a 75-minute NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour practice session for the season-opening Icebreaker at Thompson International Speedway on Saturday.

Bonsignore, out of Holtsville, N.Y., got around the .625-mile oval in 18.441 seconds for an average speed of 122.011 mph. He was the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour’s Rookie of the Year in 2010 and is in search of his first Tour win at Thomspson.

Ryan Preece posted the second quickest lap of the session at 18.479 seconds (121.760 mph) followed by Eric Berndt with a time of 18.561 seconds (121.222 mph). Two-time Tour champion Donny Lia was fourth fastest at 18.570 seconds (121.163 seconds) while Rob Fuller checked in with the fifth-best time of 18.581 seconds (121.091 mph).

Rookie Keith Rocco, Mike Stefanik, Jimmy Blewett, defending champion Ron Silk and Ron Yuhas Jr. rounded out the top 10.

Qualifying is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET while the 2012 season opener is set to take the green flag at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
